Friends of Northampton Trails was involved in the Main Street for Everyone campaign, organized to raise awareness of the Main Street redesign process and promote changes that will help to make downtown more accessible for the same people who enjoy using the trails- the walkers and bikers. Now that the final design has been chosen, Main Street for Everyone has been disbanded, but on this page we share some of the important ideas that came from that movement.
Our Vision for Main Street, Northampton is to have a safe, accessible, spacious, and green public space designed to:
- Attract a diversity of people to shop, dine, socialize, seek and provide services, and engage in civic activity
- Reduce heat trapping pollution that is driving our climate crisis
- Strengthen our resilience to the local impacts of climate change such as extreme heat, poor air quality, and severe storms

Below you can see the results of a survey in which we asked random citizens what they would value most in a Main Street redesign. We admit the results might be a bit biased. It’s hard to have a conversation with a person driving by in a car!
